In the presence of BJP State President A Sharda Devi and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Manipur Sambit Patra coordinator, Biren Singh tenders his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned on Sunday, February 9, 2025, one day before he was scheduled to face a motion of no-confidence in the Manipur Assembly.
Mr. Singh was called to Delhi earlier in the day to meet with Amit Shah, the home minister. The meeting at Mr. Shah’s house lasted for fifteen minutes. Fourteen MLAs from the BJP and Naga People’s Front (NPF) accompanied Mr. Singh.
Mr. Singh submitted his resignation to the Governor shortly after his return to Imphal. A Sharda Devi, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Sambit Patra, the party’s representative for Manipur, accompanied him.
In the letter, Mr. Singh expressed his gratitude to the Central government for defending the interests of the Manipuri through prompt actions, interventions, developmental activities, and the implementation of various projects.
In the letter to the Governor, Mr. Singh requested that the Middle “keep up with the regional trustworthiness of Manipur which has a rich and different civilizational history more than millennia; to get serious about line penetration and formulate policy for the deportation of the illegal immigrants; to continue the fight against drugs and narco-terrorism; to continue the stringent and foolproof revised mechanism of FMR (Free Movement System) with the biometric being severely applied; time bound and quicker line which is in progress.”
