with its Assembly Youth Congress committees of Saikul, Saitu and Kangpokpi 

organized a mass protest against the rising oil prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas 

at IT road, Oil pump Kangkpokpi. The mass protest which was led the District Youth 

Congress, President T.Samuel Haokip insisted on the importance of the role of youths to sensitize the general public regarding the continuous rise in oil prices in the country and in the states. He also asserted that the public can no longer remain as a mute spectator when it comes to dealing with the faulty taxation policy on Oil prices by Modi led BJP government at the centre and N. Biren led BJP government in the states. The Youth Congress also displayed on their banner demanding the centre and the State government to bring down the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gases so that the poor and the middle class society do not have to suffer unnecessarily due to their mismanagement. The youth Congress also displayed various placards hinting at the BJP government for their vicious attempt to hike the prices of fuel on a daily basis by prompting is the rising prices of fuel the “Acche Din” which Mr. Modi had promised before coming to power and another which displayed stop looting your own fellow citizen who voted you to power. DYC’s General Secretary Mr. Jangminthang Kipgen who briefed the media says that he neither represents his party nor tries to make any political brownie on the issue of rising Oil prices but, to convey the misery and hardships faced by the poorest of the poor and the middle class to BJP government at the Centre and the State in particular. He also mentioned that the poor and the middle class which constitute 55% of the Country’s population had been hit the hardest, the reason being their heavy dependence on the primary and the secondary sector which are directly affected by the rise in oil prices. He also make his appeal to the the Centre and the State government to cut the Excise duty and Valued Added Tax(VAT) respectively on Petroleum and its products or else, they should in a time bound manner bring it in the ambit of GST, so that its prices can be kept under check and balance. He also compared the rate at which the present government imports the crude Oil and the rate at which petrol is sold in the states today to the rate at which the previous regime imported and sold then, keeping the present government on the back foot. He also took a dig at Modi’s government for finding all their excuses on Covid Pandemic and the previous regime. Mr. Kipgen finally added that, inspite of the fact people of this country, having given the benefits of the doubt to Mr. Modi, if he continues to fail at this level on and on his resignation will be sought sooner than expected.
